Dubai Resort Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Launches Monthly “Sustainability Talks” to Foster Green Practices

As part of the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, guests are invited to join leading experts for engaging discussions every month.

Dubai’s luxurious Jumeirah Zabeel Saray resort, located on the picturesque west crescent of Palm Jumeirah, has announced an innovative series of events aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. Dubbed “Sustainability Talks,” these monthly gatherings will take place at Arcadia, the resort’s dedicated space featuring an advanced hydroponic farm, starting in February 2024.

The initiative seeks to enlighten guests on various eco-friendly practices by inviting experts like Amanda Rushforth to share their valuable insights through engaging discussions. Spearheading the series is Hala Dahmane, the proactive President & Managing Director of Azraq, a notable non-profit organization focused on marine conservation. The inaugural session will shine a spotlight on Marine Conservation within the UAE, setting a precedent for the informative and interactive sessions to follow.

Commenting on the Sustainability Talks launch, General Manager Mark Herir said: “Offering unmatched experiences while also developing more sustainable practices is central to our operations at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, and Arcadia is testament to that ethos. Blending excellent cuisine with an eco-friendly approach. We are delighted to welcome Azraq board members, where they can share their in-depth knowledge from their work with Azraq while discussing how we can maximise our efforts to drive sustainability. Our resort is leading amongst other properties in its sustainable approach to hospitality, and Arcadia, with its Hydroponic farm and organic garden, presents an ideal venue to inform and engage our guests in responsible production and consumption.”

Arcadia not only showcases an impressive hydroponic farm but also provides a unique dining experience amidst verdant surroundings. Guests can relish fresh salads and delectable barbeques seated at a communal country-style table. The venue also offers cooking classes, chef’s tables on request, and exclusive dining under the stars for those special moments.

The resort’s hydroponic farm, spanning 55 square meters, impressively yields over 210 kg of leafy greens and herbs monthly, supplying fresh ingredients to the resort’s various dining establishments. Hydroponic farming is celebrated for its water efficiency, reducing usage by up to 90%, and for its independence from soil and reduced carbon footprint, thanks to minimised transportation needs. This method ensures fresh, nutrient-rich produce throughout the year, unaffected by climate changes or adverse weather.

With its pioneering approach to sustainability, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray sets a benchmark in the hospitality industry, demonstrating how luxury and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.
