Exclusive Interview: Saman Hayat Soomro Talks Modesty, Positivity and Inclusivity in the Digital World

The content creator shares inspiration behind her newly launched modest wear label and discusses the importance of creating a kinder online space.

In today’s world, where the influencer and content creation market has gained popularity very quickly as a source of storytelling and personal branding, the warmth and support from followers often go hand in hand with the darker shades of hate and unwelcome criticism about one’s private life and personal choices. Let’s face it, there’s a real skill in handling the ups and downs that come with putting your life out there. Amidst this backdrop, Soigné sat down to learn more about the inspiring journey of Saman Hayat Soomro, a multifaceted Dubai-based Pakistani content creator, dentist, designer, and entrepreneur.

Inspired by her own personal style and the challenge of finding reasonably priced modest wear, Saman recently launched her own label, Naisa—a brand that brings to life her vision of stylish, coordinated outfits that come complete with a matching hijab and caters to modest women seeking fashion-forward options. “Naisa is for any woman who finds her strength in covering up and wearing clothes that are stylish and modest at the same time. When I first started wearing the hijab, everyone thought I would wear abayas over our traditional clothes, shalwar kameez, but I chose to wear matching co-ord sets that are modest with a hijab that complements it; that kind of became my signature style and I saw that it inspired a lot of my followers to wear the same. So I wanted to create something that was a reflection of who I am while at the same time offering affordable modest wear options that came with a matching hijab that can be worn both as a head covering and a scarf draped over the outfit,” she commented.

Speaking of her current favourite clothing collections, she shared, “I am so happy with all the Ramadan collections right now; I feel like this is the modesty season. For example, I follow Safa from Dubai Bling and I saw that she launched an exclusive Ramadan edit. It makes me happy that everyone is creating modest outfits during Ramadan and if I were to shop for a whole year, I would buy from these collections during this time.”

Saman speaks to the heart of the matter when it comes to hijabi women facing undue scrutiny online. “Hijabi women need their space on the internet,” she emphasizes, advocating for a culture of patience and personal growth. According to her, the journey of self-improvement is universal—every day, everyone is evolving, drawing lessons from both the digital world and their life experiences. In the wake of the global mental health challenges post-COVID, she also commented on the urgent need to foster a more positive online environment. “It’s important now, more than ever, to spread love and positivity,” highlighting the collective responsibility to nurture a kinder internet for everyone.
