Fatma Hamad, the creative mind behind FHK by Style Gallery, aims to keep her father’s legacy alive with her jewellery line while ensuring her designs resonate with today’s generation. In an exclusive conversation with Soigne, she shares how each piece, from the heritage-rich Turathi to the opulent Loulouy collection, carries a deep cultural narrative. More than just beautiful adornments, Fatma’s creations are heartfelt tributes that weave traditional Emirati motifs with modern aesthetics, appealing to contemporary jewellery enthusiasts everywhere.
What’s Your Brand Story?
I was inspired to launch my own jewellery line, FHK by Style Gallery, by the legacy of my late father, Hamad Suhail Al Ketbi, the founder of Style Gallery. Inspired by his pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence, I launched FHK to continue his legacy in jewellery design. Each piece is infused with a modern aesthetic, crafted to resonate with a younger audience while honouring my father’s influence. FHK represents not just jewellery but also a heartfelt homage to my father’s remarkable journey and the enduring legacy he built at Style Gallery.
I see that each of your collection has a different meaning and was inspired by different elements. Can you tell us about them in more detail?
Each collection at FHK by Style Gallery is a testament to our diverse inspirations, each imbued with its unique significance. While they may vary in appearance, they are all united by a common thread of inspiration deeply rooted in Emirati culture and symbolism.
For instance, our Turathi collection draws inspiration from traditional Arabic henna designs, symbolizing heritage and intricate beauty. Meanwhile, the Loulouy collection pays homage to the rich history of pearl diving in the UAE, showcasing the elegance and opulence of these precious gems.
Furthermore, our AlFakhr collection is a tribute to our founders, reflecting their vision and passion for excellence. Each element, whether Arabian horses or traditional motifs, is carefully curated to embody the essence of the UAE and its vibrant cultural tapestry.
Was there ever a moment when something completely unexpected inspired a jewellery piece? Perhaps a story, a dream, or even a joke?
It’s remarkable how inspiration can catch you off guard. It was during a simple moment of playing around with designs for our signature collection, Turathi, that something unexpected happened. As I experimented with henna-inspired patterns, it started as just a bit of joy. But soon, I found myself drawn in by the beauty of the intricate designs taking shape before me.
What I thought was a playful experiment turned out to be something truly special. Surprisingly, these designs became some of our best-selling pieces at FHK. It shows the magic that can happen when you let your creativity flow freely.
If each gemstone you work with represented a philosophical idea or belief, which stone would embody your brand’s core value and why?
Ruby and emeralds hold a special place in my heart. They go beyond mere gemstones to become integral to our brand’s identity. Their beauty isn’t just visual; they’re like storytellers, echoing the vibrant spirit of my homeland. I weave in heritage elements with every design, creating jewellery that speaks to the soul and resonates deeply with our brand’s essence. It’s more than just crafting pieces; it’s about forging meaningful connections and celebrating the rich tapestry of our culture.
In a world craving peace and positivity, what message would you want your next jewellery piece to convey to those who wear it?
As we develop our upcoming jewelry piece, we’re particularly inspired by the celebration of Emirati Women’s Day and the remarkable stories of resilience and strength among Emirati women. Drawing from the legacy of Loulouy pearls, renowned for their exquisite beauty and cultural significance in the UAE, we aim to craft a piece that pays homage to the heritage of pearl diving and the modern achievements of Emirati women. Our design will embody the spirit of Emirati women, reflecting their journey of overcoming challenges with poise and sophistication reminiscent of the formation of a pearl amidst adversity. We hope that this will serve as a symbol of empowerment and beauty, honoring the invaluable contributions of Emirati women to society and inspiring others to embrace their inner strength.
What are some of your personal favourite designs from your brand and how would you advise styling them?
One of my personal favorites is our latest Petali collection. I just love how the gemstones blend together, creating such a captivating mix of colours. For styling tips, I’d recommend layering the single Petali pendants with the Petali flower to really make a statement, especially for a bold summer style.
And for a more relaxed vibe, you could try stacking multiple adjustable rings side by side. It’s a trendy and versatile look that adds a little something extra to your outfit. Or, if you’re just out running errands or keeping it simple, wearing a single Petali ring on your pinky can still bring that touch of elegance to your look. These little styling tricks make it so easy to incorporate the Petali collection into your everyday style, with just the right amount of flair and personality.
