As an Emirati designer, how do you feel Emirati Women’s Day contributes to empowering women in the UAE, particularly in the fashion industry?

Emirati Women’s Day is a powerful reminder of the incredible progress and potential of women in the UAE. It’s a day that not only celebrates our achievements but also inspires the next generation to dream bigger and break boundaries. In the fashion industry, this empowerment is particularly significant. It encourages more Emirati women to express their identity and heritage through design, which in turn enriches our cultural narrative on a global scale. It’s a platform that amplifies our voices, stories, and creativity, making it clear that Emirati women are pivotal in shaping the future of fashion both locally and internationally.

What does your Emirati roots mean to you?

My Emirati roots are the foundation of everything I do. They represent a deep connection to a rich heritage and culture that has been passed down through generations. This connection informs my work, from the intricate designs that echo traditional Emirati artistry to the values of community and craftsmanship that drive my brand. Being Emirati is not just about where I come from; it’s about who I am and how I present myself and my culture to the world. It’s a source of immense pride and responsibility to honor my roots while innovating within the fashion industry.

If you could describe the traits of an Emirati woman in 3 words, what would they be?

Resilient, visionary, and graceful.

As a successful female entrepreneur, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them? What advice would you give to aspiring female designers in the UAE?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is balancing the preservation of our rich cultural heritage with the need to innovate and appeal to a global market. It’s a delicate dance between staying true to our roots and pushing the boundaries of design. Overcoming this challenge required a deep understanding of both tradition and contemporary trends, as well as the courage to take risks.

My advice to aspiring female designers is to embrace your unique perspective and never underestimate the value of your cultural heritage. It’s what sets you apart in a competitive industry. Stay resilient, seek mentorship, and continuously educate yourself. The road may be tough, but your passion and persistence will guide you through.

Who are the women that inspire you, both personally and professionally? How have they influenced your journey as a designer?

I draw inspiration from many women, but my greatest influence has always been the strong women in my family, especially my mother. Her grace, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our culture have shaped my values and my approach to design.

Professionally, I am inspired by global icons like Gabrielle Chanel for her pioneering spirit and empowering designs. She has shown that it is possible to create timeless pieces that resonate with women across generations while staying true to one’s vision. Their influence is evident in my work, where I strive to create pieces that are both contemporary and deeply rooted in cultural heritage.

Could you think of one piece that you have designed that is inspired by womanhood? Particularly the Emirati women?

One piece that stands out is a cape called “The Silver Zari” which I designed as part of my Ramadan collection , which was inspired by the strength and grace of Emirati women. The piece features intricate hand-embroidery using traditional techniques, symbolizing the delicate balance between beauty and resilience. The flowing lines and elegant silhouette capture the essence of femininity, while the design itself is a tribute to the cultural heritage that binds us as Emirati women. It’s a celebration of our identity, both as women and as torchbearers of our rich traditions.

What message would you like to share with women across the UAE on this special day?

On this Emirati Women’s Day, I want to remind every woman in the UAE of the power and potential we hold. We are the guardians of a rich heritage and the pioneers of a future filled with possibilities. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other, embracing our unique journeys with courage and grace. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will continue to shape the future of our nation and beyond.

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?

Yes, I’m thrilled to be working on a new collection that will further explore the fusion of traditional Emirati craftsmanship with modern design elements. Additionally, we have an exciting collaboration with a prominent international department store, which will help bring Emirati fashion to a broader audience. These projects are not just about creating beautiful clothing; they’re about telling a story and sharing the rich tapestry of Emirati culture with the world.

Any final thoughts or messages on this special day?

Emirati Women’s Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more we can achieve. To all the women out there, I encourage you to continue pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and paving the way for the generations to come. We are the architects of our own futures, and with every step we take, we are building a legacy that will inspire many more to follow.
