In conversations with women across the region, whenever I ask about their go-to traditional wear, South Asian attire—whether from India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh—inevitably tops the list. The beauty of embroidered lehengas, flowing sarees, and delicately handcrafted details never gets old, the love runs deep for their cultural significance and regality. At the heart of this sartorial celebration stands Misha Lakhani, a designer who breathes new life into these traditions with designs that resonates deeply with every generation.

Following the launch of her namesake label in 2012, the Pakistani designer, Misha quickly rose to prominence as one of the most sought-after designers in the subcontinent and beyond. Known for her captivating take on bridal couture, luxury prêt-à-porter, and versatile occasion wear, her designs have dressed some of the most influential figures in Pakistan, India, and the wider Middle East.

Just in time for the festive season, Misha Lakhani’s recent expansion into Dubai with a stunning boutique in Jumeirah has now made her designs even more accessible to the Middle Eastern clientele. “This sun-drenched villa in Jumeirah 1 is an extension of my love for this vibrant city,” Misha shares as she reflects on why she chose this location. “It features bespoke interiors made in collaboration with Strata. Expect handcrafted embroidered textiles, mother-of-pearl inlay work, and woodwork reflecting our ethos. The recurring themes found across my designs whisper the craftsmanship that is at the heart of what we do.”

The new Dubai store is as much an artistic statement as it is a retail space. Featuring contemporary regional art by Treasure Trove, the boutique appeals to a global audience with an eye and love for the unique. Downstairs, visitors are greeted by Misha’s ready-to-wear collections and as you take the stairs up, a more intimate space offers couture collections and a private shopping area where Lakhani meets with clients to discuss their bespoke needs.

Offering a deeper look into the store experience and the inspiration behind her pieces, she shared: “The styles we carry are for the global nomad with a love for the artisanal and versatile. We do a blend of traditional and contemporary styles. The response has been great given Dubai’s mix of cultures. Whether it is my store staff or aesthetics, everything reflects an eclectic take on fashion, blending the best of the subcontinent with that of this region.”

When it comes to choosing a favourite piece from her collections, Misha’s connection to her designs runs deep. “My favourites keep changing with every collection and drop, which is very frequent, I feel like every piece has its own story, so it’s hard to choose just one.”

No matter how successful, running a fashion business comes with its set of challenges. Beyond creativity, it requires managing the human side of the business—something she’s learned to master over the years. “There is a lot of psychology in running a business,” she explains. “You’re working with a variety of personalities, backgrounds, temperaments, and capabilities. Harnessing the best in everyone so they work as a team, flourish, and grow with a shared vision and values is something I’ve had to learn to cultivate along the way.”
