Art, automotive, and philanthropy met as The Peninsula London teamed up with McLaren Automotive and artist Yinka Ilori MBE for an unforgettable live art event. Over two days, guests had the opportunity to watch Ilori transform a McLaren Artura into a one-of-a-kind work of art—all to support the Art of Wishes initiative for Make-A-Wish UK.
Taking place on the 14th and 15th of October, during Frieze London 2024, The Peninsula’s serene courtyard became a live art studio. Ilori, known for his bold and vivid designs, spent the weekend transforming the the hybrid supercar, McLaren Artura, into a true art piece. It all unfolded with a sense of purpose, with all proceeds from the auction of the hand-painted bonnet going towards granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Following the live painting, the Artura will be on display at The Peninsula London for two weeks before it embarks on a three-month tour of McLaren showrooms across the UK. The journey will culminate in an auction of the bonnet, with the proceeds directly benefiting Make-A-Wish UK, fulfilling dreams for children who need it most.
This event marks yet another chapter for Art of Wishes, a fundraising initiative founded by Batia Ofer in 2017. With over £12 million raised to date, their efforts continue to bring hope and joy to children with critical illnesses through the power of art.
The Peninsula London’s dedication to supporting the arts is well established, with initiatives like the ‘Artist in Residence’ program providing platforms for emerging talent. Meanwhile, McLaren’s heritage in luxury high-performance vehicles continues to push the boundaries of automotive design and innovation, making this collaboration a true celebration of both art and engineering.
“Showcasing outstanding automotive design and supporting British artistic creativity are principles The Peninsula London holds dear,” said Rolf Buehlmann, Managing Director of The Peninsula London. “Frieze London presented a unique opportunity to engage with our community through an event that embodies both excitement and artistry.”
