Dubai Design Week is back, and this year’s lineup is bigger than ever. From November 5 to 10, Dubai Design District (d3) will host the 10th edition of the Middle East’s largest design event, marking a decade of creativity and cultural dialogue in the heart of Dubai. With a showcase of installations, galleries, and fresh creative concepts, this week-long event is set to make an impact for the industry pros and for everyone curious about the design landscape.
What’s New and Noteworthy?
Downtown Design
Starting November 6, Downtown Design brings the who’s who of contemporary design to Dubai. This fair is where top designers reveal their latest collections, unique creations, and forward-thinking solutions. Think stunning furniture displays, pop-up installations, and all the chic networking moments you could ask for. This is the place to find inspiration and even take some of it home.
Meet Editions: A Fresh Take on Collecting
A debut for Dubai Design Week, Editions is a limited-edition art and design fair for collectors, both budding and seasoned. More than 50 galleries, design studios, and creative collectives will showcase unique pieces across price ranges, making it easier than ever to start your own collection or add to it.
Abwab: Doors of Inspiration from the Region
The much-loved Abwab returns with installations inspired by vernacular architecture and culture from the South West Asian and North African (SWANA) region. Translating to “doors” in Arabic, Abwab invites local and regional designers to tell their stories through design. This year, the theme is all about community and tradition—a chance to get up close with the essence of regional artistry.
Urban Commissions: A Public Space Revamp
Each year, Urban Commissions challenges architects and designers to create community-centered outdoor furniture. This year’s winner, Omani studio Altqadum, will present ‘TukTuKDum,’ a table inspired by the Gulf’s musical heritage. The interactive piece encourages connection, so go ahead—sit, play, and let the beat take over.
Workshops and Talks
The event offers over 50 workshops and masterclasses designed to inspire new designers of all ages. Additionally, a series of live talks will bring together regional and international designers, creatives, and thought leaders to debate and exchange ideas.
Celebrating a decade of design excellence, Dubai Design Week 2024 reflects on its cultural and economic impact on the GCC’s USD 26 billion design industry. The event has matured into a major international design event, shaping Dubai’s identity as a thriving global center for design and creativity in the Middle East.
