In a move that brings inclusivity and elite sport into the same arena, The Royal Stables in Abu Dhabi has launched a new initiative to build a UAE para dressage team for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The Para Dressage Performance Programme is designed to support and train Emirati athletes of determination, creating a clear pathway to the Paralympics with top-tier coaching and resources. Para dressage is a highly technical equestrian sport adapted for athletes with physical impairments—and the only equestrian discipline featured at the Paralympics.

Leading the project is Laura Richardson, Performance Manager at The Royal Stables, alongside Technical Lead Russell Mackechnie-Guire, a specialist in equine biomechanics. With support from physiotherapist Mohamed Dahdouh and veterinarian Krish Someshwar, the programme is structured around both athlete development and horse welfare.

One of the standout elements is the use of a Racewood Simulator—a state-of-the-art training tool that mimics the motion of a real horse, helping athletes build skill and confidence in a safe environment. It will also be available to the public outside of the para programme.

“This initiative is a testament to our dedication to fostering talent and breaking barriers in equestrian sports,” said H.E. Buthaina Al Mazrouei, Board Member at The Royal Stables.

Applications are now open for aspiring athletes, with a formal launch event set for April 10 at the Sheikh Zayed Majlis. Supporters and sponsors are also invited to be part of this growing movement.
