It’s almost July and summer is at its peak. A lot of us take mini-vacations this time of the year, heading off to nearby serene oases such as Salalah or beachy destinations such as the Amalfi Coast.
But with ongoing regional tensions simmering, many traveling from the UAE are asking: Is it safe to go?
The short answer is yes, but caution must be exercised to make sure you and your loved ones are safe and sound when traveling.
While the UAE remains stable and open for international travel, recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel, have indeed impacted Gulf airspace.
In late June, Emirates, Etihad, and other major airlines experienced rerouted flights and minor delays due to precautionary closures of regional airspace. Most operations have now normalized, and both Dubai and Abu Dhabi international airport are back to being fully functional.
Emergency response protocols have also been set in place to support passengers in case of unexpected disruptions.
On the ground, the UAE remains safe and orderly as always. Daily life goes on as usual with strong security measures at malls, hotels, airports, and all other public spaces.
That being said, travelers are advised to remain alert, especially near foreign embassies, high-profile events, and transit hubs such as metro stations and airports. Travel insurance – preferably with “Cancel for Any Reason” (CFAR) coverage – is strongly recommended.
For all those looking to travel, the skies remain largely open. But flexibility is key. Monitor the news and flight apps, be prepared for longer layovers, and keep alternate routes in mind. Above all, keep a level head and always have your safety at the forefront of your travel planning.
