Football season is here, and while countries gear up to celebrate, the one question rarely asked is ‘what are we wearing?’ Unlike other sports—like F1—the answer to this question is pretty obvious. A jersey or team colours is the norm, and with the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, it will probably continue to do so. But styling the jersey is where the questions begin because simply slapping a jersey on just won’t do. So if you’re wondering how to make the jersey work for you this tournament season, here’s our nifty guide to styling the top.

Jersey + Denim

A classic combo for a reason, when it comes to FIFA fashion, you’ll normally find jerseys paired with straight-legged denim. Denim shorts are another option for a more streetwear-esque look. Whereas the jersey can be best styled with a long sleeve undershirt, either in a neutral white or a trendy lace. Not only does it add interest through colour and texture blocking, but it’s a way to go extra modest if you’re feeling like.

Jersey + Track Pants

It sounds so obviously sporty to pair a jersey with track pants, but we recommend turning the outfit combo chic. Pair a loose fit, wide-legged track pants with boots, an oversized clutch, and statement sunglasses. For hair, opt for a slickback bun or ponytail; after all, the games can be tense and we don’t want hair in the way. Plus, it adds to the cool factor that the outfit demands.

Jersey + Skirt

For a more preppy and feminine look, try pairing a jersey with a skirt. A flowy A-line paired with sneakers gives off a casual look, while a maxi denim skirt paired with boots offers a more sophisticated one. Ruffle skirts paired with jersey is another trendy option, especially when paired with a cap and stacked jewellery.

Jersey + Oversized Layers

Since the heat is building up, you cannot go wrong with loose, oversized layers. This could mean a linen blazer or a light cotton jacket. Oversized silhouettes are also another way to make the jersey look like a fashion statement. We’re talking balloon pants, wide-legged capri shorts, or pleated balloon skirts that add flounce and movement.

Jersey + Abaya

Since we’re repping our home teams, why not add a bit of cultural fusion to it? A trench coat abaya would blend the two, but any open abaya would showcase the mix. It’s also a look seen on Georgina Rodriguez, who once attended a match with an open abaya and midi dress.

No Jersey? No Problem!

For those considering to not wear a jersey, opt for a monochromatic look instead. This could mean a denim set that offers a clean, polished look paired with a statement bag, or a tracksuit in team colours that brings on that sporty vibe. Here, shoes and accessories can do all the talking, making a tracksuit look intentional rather than thrown on, suiting the look for the afterparties that are definitely happening once the match is over.
