One day was never going to be enough. Emirati Women’s Day 2026 will expand into a month-long celebration for the first time, beginning on 28 August and continuing with a wider programme of events, initiatives and conversations dedicated to women across the UAE.
The announcement was made by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.
Held under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better,” this year’s edition looks beyond a single moment of recognition. Instead, it opens the door to a fuller celebration of Emirati women across public life, business, culture, science, education and the creative industries, while asking what meaningful support and progress should look like in the years ahead.
The extended format will allow more time for stories to be told, achievements to be recognised and new initiatives to take shape. It also brings greater attention to the realities women continue to navigate, particularly working mothers and those balancing professional life with caring responsibilities.
As part of the announcement, Sheikha Fatima called on institutions to introduce more flexible and forward-thinking policies for women, including stronger support for those caring for children, senior citizens and people of determination. Celebrating women also means creating the conditions that allow them to continue growing, contributing and leading.
Emirati Women’s Day was established in 2015 and is observed each year on 28 August, marking the anniversary of the founding of the General Women’s Union in 1975. Over the past decade, it has become one of the country’s most prominent occasions for recognising the women shaping the UAE’s cultural, social and economic story.
Its evolution into a month-long programme feels like a natural extension. More space means more voices, more visibility and more opportunities to move beyond tributes towards lasting action.
A full calendar of events is yet to be announced, but one thing is already certain, this August, Emirati women will take centre stage for far longer than a day.
