Slits on Denim Skirts Can Be Tricky for Modest Girlies – Here’s How I Fixed That

Shahrose Chaudri, founder of high-end denim boutique Rosé, shares her insights on denim's evolving role in modest fashion.

Denim is undoubtedly one of the coolest modest pieces which is donned by women from all walks of life. Stemming from the ability to create long silhouettes and adding cuts that are wide, loose, baggy and comfortable has made it one of the go-to pieces of modest dressing.

Thanks to the many variations that it has seen in recent years, it comes in forms beyond the jeans. This positions it in the trending market due to its breakthrough in other categories such as skirts, shorts, jackets, vests and even tailor made blazers, suits, trousers and couture pieces.

Being a timeless staple in every wardrobe, the last two years has seen an influx in the demand and a consistent trend in denim skirts. The only limitation with denim skirts while considering the longer slit is the result of a challenge to cover, making it difficult to include in a modest wardrobe.

Many brands however, have worked to solve the problem by offering slits which are short and result in friendly covering.

One such brand includes my brand, Rosé Official, that was built on the conceptual framework and established on the platform of expression through fashion. The agenda to promote individuality and provide comfort with the aim to have the option to create modest wardrobes is a gap which is gradually filling itself through such brands.

Specifically as seen through Rosé, the idea of “customisation” & “creating something for everyone according to values” is the goal. The brand itself moves beyond fashion with the aim to implement a culture and environment by being flexible to individual preferences and offering customisations to ensure all different types of values are tolerated.

Brands providing denim have therefore set out to cater to customers which prefer modesty by also providing A-line cut skirts and are keeping the concept of denim skirts in different styles alive.

In a fashion world where street style meets formal, styling denim comes with many possibilities to either dress it up or dress it down. It has become the go-to fabric for playing around with styles throughout all seasons, with even more attention in the fashion market as high-end designers embrace it and give it its own luxury category. With denim coming in all different weights—from light to heavier—it works for both summer and winter, making it a pretty climate-friendly option. Beyond just the fabric, denim’s iconic shades have made their way into cotton trousers, swimwear, and even long, modest cardigans. It moves beyond apparel alone, working with technology, politics and culture and has managed to integrate itself as a concept within the modest regions around the world.
