Reduced Work Hours for Private Sector Announced During Ramadan by UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources

Flexible and remote work options encouraged for the Holy month

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced that during Ramadan, people working in the private sector will have their workdays shortened by two hours. This change aims to offer more flexibility and possibly include the option for employees to work from home or adjust their schedules, depending on what their job demands.

For this special month, private sector workers can expect a lighter daily schedule. This update comes along with similar adjustments for those in the public sector, where official work times are set from 9 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and until noon on Fridays.

Additionally, government workers have the option to work remotely, with up to 70% of staff allowed to do so on Fridays.

The beginning of Ramadan is set for March 11, following the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre’s confirmation of the Shaban crescent moon sighting on February 10, which started the countdown to Ramadan’s month of fasting.

As seen in the official X post, MOHRE minister said: “In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during Ramadan.”
