Today, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day, I’m thinking about the achievements of so many women across the globe who overcome unique challenges every day and rise above societal pressure, stereotypes, and discrimination. This is especially true for those from South Asian communities, where life throws more challenges, obstacles are bigger, and voices often go unheard. Growing up in such a community in Pakistan, I’ve seen the incredible spirit of women up close, starting with my mother and extending far beyond the confines of my home.
The resilience, strength, and power of a woman are truly magical, and that magic lies everywhere—in busy city streets led by determined women or in rural communities nurtured by their care. It’s a power as varied as it is deep, seen in millions, if not billions, of ways.
Yet, despite being everywhere, it often remains unseen, unheard, and underrepresented. Many voices are lost in a world that doesn’t always listen to or see the value in every woman’s story.
From Anousheh Ansari, the first female space tourist, to Hanadi Zakaria al-Hindi, the first Saudi woman to become a commercial airline pilot, women worldwide have shown why we deserve to be celebrated today and every day, whether we look around in our homes, offices, or at the unmatched valour of Palestinian mothers, journalists, doctors, and nurses.
Our achievements matter, no matter where we are from. Every woman, no matter her background, skin colour, body shape, or clothing, deserves to be seen and celebrated.

Here’s to womanhood—in all its forms, with all its stories, and with all its power. Here’s to the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. Here’s to the leaders, dreamers, fighters, and believers.
