‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Is Official—Here’s Everything We Know So Far

The Devil returns.

If you’ve watched and loved The Devil Wears Prada, you’re going to want to sit down for this one. A sequel to the beloved cult-classic is confirmed to arrive in theatres on May 1, 2026. This means that in less than a year, we’ll get a fresh glimpse into the world of Runway magazine!

Based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, the 2006 film grossed over $236 million worldwide, in no small part due to the star power of the highly talented cast, featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt. And all except for Anne Hathaway have confirmed, in their own ways, that they will be making a happy return for the sequel.

This left fans disappointed because Hathaway’s portrayal of the intrepid (if initially drab-dressing) journalist, Andy Sachs, is simply iconic. Hathaway did express her feelings about the film in interview in April 2024, “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” but stated, at the same time, that “there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different.”

So while there’s still a lot of uncertainty milling about, it’s safe to keep our hopes up because Hathaway’s singular point of concern is addressed in one of the main storylines for the sequel, which subverts the power dynamic of the original.

Miranda Priestly, the cold and powerful high-strung editor of Runway is facing the inevitable decline of her print magazine, Runway, and has to win the favor of Emily Charleston, her erstwhile assistant, who has now risen up the social ladder by becoming a high-powered executive at a luxury group controlling big bucks in advertising that Priestly desperately needs to keep her magazine afloat.

In the case of sequels being made for beloved original films, there is often the fear that it will be a mediocre and lazy project that only intends to profit off the nostalgia of older generations, but it can be said with almost complete certainty, this won’t be the case for The Devil Wears Prada, with the original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna returning, along with actors such as Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci, who only attach themselves to high-quality, original projects.

Because The Devil Wears Prada wasn’t just a chick-flick about fashion – it defined the culture when it came out. It is an intricately layered film that has divided audiences for years, debating who the real villain of the film is. Was it Andy’s boyfriend who didn’t seem too supportive of her fashion magazine job? Was it Miranda Priestly because of, well, all her Miranda-Priestly-ness? Was it the devilishly handsome, Grecian-god looking, Christian Thompson who swayed Andy? Was it the fashion industry in general? Was it just a case of a toxic workplace?

Whatever it may be, to all those of you who listen to KT Tunstall’s ‘Suddenly I See‘ as you go about your big-girl jobs, romanticising your 9-5 grind, because you know, in your heart, just like Andy did, this is your passion and it will all pay off in the end, keep an eye out for this film.
