Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara: Inside Oman’s Luxe Seaside Sanctuary

Everything you need to know about the first luxury pool villa resort in Salalah

Salalah has never jockeyed for attention—it lets the khareef monsoon do the talking. Mist settles over coconut palms, sea turtles cruise the jade shallows, and the ruins of Al Baleed keep watch at the shoreline.

Tucked beside those UNESCO-listed stones, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara heightens the tranquility as the city’s first resort where every villa comes with its own private, temperature-controlled pool.

Days here keep the same gentle tempo as the monsoon. Breakfast herbs arrive from the resort’s own organic farm before you slip into a 44-metre infinity pool that seems to pour straight into the Arabian Sea.

Afternoons invite a frankincense-steam hammam or a bike ride through coconut groves. Come dusk, farm-fresh peppers char at Al Mina while Mekong sends out lime-leaf curries—proof that “local” can taste truly world-class. When the moon rises over the lagoon, the only call left is whether to book dawn paddle-boarding or let another pot of Omani coffee reach your villa deck.

In the exclusive Q&A below, resort General Manager Andrea Orru lays out the experience that awaits.

As Salalah’s first luxury pool-villa resort, what sets Al Baleed apart from the region’s existing five-star stays?

Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara offers a rare combination of elements that are difficult to find in one destination: direct beach access, a variety of private pool villas with dedicated villa host service, and standout dining options such as Mekong, which brings vibrant Asian flavours to the Omani coast. What truly elevates us, however, is the sense of privacy and serenity; guests can disconnect completely while being immersed in nature. There’s a palpable sense of freedom here, enhanced by our tropical, almost island-like setting that makes one feel far removed from the everyday.

Private pools, high garden walls, and direct lagoon or beach access define the villas. In your view, how do these elements shape a guest’s stay experience?

They’re central to the experience. Our villas were designed to reflect both luxury and peace; private pools, lush garden walls, and uninterrupted access to either beach or lagoon ensure our guests can truly switch off. It’s about creating a sanctuary where guests feel completely at ease in their own space, surrounded by the gentle rhythm of the sea and the comfort of tailored service. That sense of privacy, coupled with the raw beauty of our surroundings, leaves a lasting impression.

Few five-star properties can point to an on-site farm. Can you walk us through the execution process of this unique farm-to-fork concept and why do you think it is important for the hospitality industry today?

The farm began as a vision to breathe new life into otherwise dry, unused land. What emerged was a sustainable, purpose-driven space that reconnects us to the source of what we serve. Spearheaded by our farm Guru Mr. Adil, who helps supply fresh produce for our culinary team, the farm reflects our team’s genuine passion for sustainability; a way to go back to basics and give back to mother nature. It’s a model that’s more than just relevant in today’s hospitality world; it’s necessary. Guests increasingly seek experiences grounded in authenticity and responsibility.

Khareef’s misty monsoon and the drier winter both appeal. What can guests expect in each season, and when do you personally love the resort most?

Khareef brings with it a soft drizzle, cooler temperatures, and an ethereal green landscape; it’s ideal for guests from the GCC looking to escape the summer heat. Winter, on the other hand, offers crisp blue skies and sunny days that are perfect for European travellers in search of warmth by the sea. Personally, I’m drawn to the winter months; it reminds me of my Sardinian roots: the breeze, the sun, the beach. It’s when the resort feels most alive to me.

For guests planning a stay at Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, which on-site experiences top your must-try list?

Designer Dining is a signature favourite; a private culinary journey under the stars. Our Anantara Spa rituals are also deeply rooted in local traditions, and Mekong offers a unique dining experience that consistently wins hearts. Beyond that, I’d encourage guests to join a guided farm visit or explore our Frankincense-inspired wellness treatments. Each experience is designed to connect guests to the destination, not just the resort.

Last year the resort staged a month-long Al Baleed Culinary Festival, pairing Michelin-starred guest chefs with “Omani Night” pop-ups led by chef Dina Macki. When you’re mapping out menus like that, how do you keep up with the five-star experience without losing the soul of Salalah-cooking?

We always begin by encouraging chefs to first discover the local produce; taste it, learn its story, and meet the people behind it. That’s where the inspiration begins. Our role is to ensure the balance remains: refined techniques meet honest flavours. For us, five-star doesn’t mean overly complicated;  it’s about elevating what’s local without overshadowing its essence.

What, in your view, makes Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara the must-book address for travellers heading to Oman’s south coast—and who are those travellers? Paint us a quick snapshot of your guest mix: where are they flying in from, and what are they looking for when they choose Salalah?

Our guests range from GCC travellers escaping the summer heat in July and August to European guests seeking winter sun from October to April. What unites them is a desire for restorative travel; privacy, nature, comfort, and culture all in one place. They’re drawn to the idea of reconnecting with themselves in a beautiful environment, and our bespoke service, warm Omani hospitality, and beautiful villas allow them to do exactly that.

Can you take us through the inspiration behind the branding for Al Baleed Resort Salalah?

Our logo features the Frankincense tree; a living symbol of Salalah’s heritage and identity. Much like Anantara’s logo, which links the brand to its Thai origins, ours grounds us in Oman’s cultural roots. It’s a visual reminder that every stay here is a journey into the authentic spirit of Dhofar, where stories are told through scent, scenery, and sincere service.
