Henna has always been an heirloom ritual in this region, but Dubai’s new generation of artists are pushing it forward with a different intent. They treat the hand as a site for couture-level experimentation, not just tradition—sketching serpentine cuffs that echo Cartier’s panthers, mapping negative-space geometry that recalls a Slim Aarons poolside, and pulling motifs as easily from an Ottoman tapestry as from a Saint Laurent runway.
In their approach, henna moves from souvenir to subculture—an aesthetic statement inked in ochre and shadow. Here are the artists to have on your radar:
Dr Azra

The artist behind the Adidas Henna Shoe and the Dubai palm tree stencil, Dr Azra’s has collaborated with the likes of Gucci, Bulgari, Bottega Veneta, and so many more. Her designs are minimalistic and playful while still incorporating traditional elements.
Sayeda N
The artist who brings dreamy designs to life! Sayeda has collaborated with top beauty brands such as KAYALI, NYX Cosmetics, Benefit Cosmetics, and many more. Her designs range from the traditional Arabic calligraphy to the more modern fine line artwork, but what we love most about her work is the range of henna colours. From the classic brown to the more eccentric silver and pink, her designs are thoughtfully created to capture the eye.
Ambreen Wahid
Also known as Girly Henna on Instagram, her designs are true to her name. Fun, feminine, and detailed, you can find intricate florals, sparkles, and the cosmos within her designs.
Dubai Henna by Sara
Located in JLT, you can find just about any design here. Whether it’s the traditional bridal henna or a funky leopard print or a unique neon henna, Sara can easily do it all and make sure it looks good!
Shumaila Shaikh
A fine line, minimalist henna designer, Shumaila’s work features a range of traditional components as well as natural elements such as florals, butterflies, and galactic components.
Sana Mohammed Talha
With her henna artwork featured at Cannes, Sara’s work is a fusion of traditional and contemporary motifs. Although she mostly does bridal henna, you can still find plenty of cool, artistic designs that make you do a double-take.
Dubai Henna Culture
With their designs gaining millions of views, it’s not hard to see why. Based in Arjan, Dubai Henna Culture’s designs lean more on the traditional side but are extremely intricate, making the designs stand out with fine detailing.
