The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born on the 12th of Rabiʽ al-Awwal, which is the third month of the Islamic Calendar. This date is recognised and celebrated across many Islamic countries, including the UAE. The official date is reliant on moon sightings and is one of four public holidays to do so. Moon sightings are also what determine the Islamic calendar year and religious observances. The public holiday confirmation follows the sighting of the crescent of Rabi Al-Awwal, which marks the beginning of the third month in the Islamic Hijri calendar.
