Awards season always comes with a lot of trophies, but the Golden Globes is really about the first big fashion thesis of the year. The carpet is where everyone shows their hand early, who’s leaning classic, who’s testing the waters, who’s already dressing for their inevitable “best dressed” montage. And this year, the best looks weren’t about shock value. They were about personality, and small styling choices that make a red carpet outfit stand out.
As stars arrived at the 83rd Golden Globes in Beverly Hills last night, it was obvious gothic minimalism is the trend of the season. Black velvet and high-shine satin, corseted bodices, sculpted shoulders, and column or ballroom silhouettes that held their shape without leaning into costume-y excess. Beauty followed suit, slicked-back ponies and glossy waves, smoked-out liner, softly contoured skin, and lips kept either classic red or muted brown.
From Selena Gomez’s bob era to Ariana Grande’s signature ponytail, here are some of our favourite looks from the red carpet.
Audrey Nuna in Thom Browne

American singer and rapper Audrey Nuna skipped the expected gown and went full Thom Browne in a cocooned black cape-coat with an oversized white bow and crisp white placket. The dotted veil and diamond drops kept it sharp, while the lace-up shoes completed the look.
Selena Gomez in Custom Chanel

Selena just made the bob cool again, arriving in custom Chanel: a black velvet bustier gown topped with a collar of feather flowers in pink, silk chiffon and organza. It took 323 atelier hours, because Chanel. The waved bob and deep red lip gave proper old-school screen siren energy, while Chanel high jewellery and sharp black slingbacks kept it polished.
Miley Cyrus’ Oversized Saint Laurent Sunglasses

Miley did Miley, showing up in Saint Laurent in a black sequinned column with pleated, fan-shaped shoulders that did all the talking. She wore giant YSL sunglasses and stacked Tiffany diamonds with a proper emerald drop to make it rockstar-at-the-gala-core.
Hailee Steinfeld Wears Prada

Hailee Steinfeld showed up in Prada, a peach silk chiffon gown with silver sequined crisscross embroidery, high neckline and an easy train that skimmed her bump beautifully. She kept it clean with Repossi diamonds and silver platforms, plus soft waves. A true Soigné woman there.
Lisa in Jacquemus

Blackpink’s Lisa came to present, but she dressed like the afterparty starts on the carpet. In Jacquemus, she wore a sheer black gown with tassel-trimmed sleeves and a stacked choker that read modern rock-glam. Fresh brunette hair and fringe, waist-length, kept it sleek.
Ariana Grande’s Signature Ponytail is Back

Ariana’s hair did half the styling for her. That high, snatched ponytail was back, sleek at the crown with glossy length that swung like punctuation every time she moved. It made the Vivienne Westwood Couture corset gown feel even sharper, especially with the clean diamonds and barely-there makeup.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas in Dior

Priyanka Chopra Jonas went full modern-glam in a custom Dior gown by Jonathan Anderson, all in blue with that clever mix of shiny and matte. The fitted bodice flowed into a softer skirt with a puffed overlay and a neat bow at the waist. Bvlgari diamonds with blue accents and soft waves sealed the look.
Teyana Taylor Goes Pixie Fantasy

Teyana Taylor went full pixie fantasy, jet-black fairy-cropped hair set in tiny finger curls, glossy and sculpted close to the scalp. Makeup was pure cat-eye attitude with smoky lids, a sharp black wing, glassy skin, and a deep rose-brown, 90s supermodel lip that read almost lacquered.
Julia Roberts’s Swarovski Jewels

Julia Roberts kept it classic in custom Giorgio Armani Privé, a black velvet gown with strong shoulders and a clean plunge. Then she got playful with Swarovski strawberry jewellery, a pendant, matching earrings, plus a ring, finished with cherry-red nails. Soft, glossy waves did the rest.
