Last weekend, we witnessed a major turning point in the content creator space. The fourth edition of the 1 Billion Followers Summit took place from January 9 – 11 at the Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre and at the Museum of the Future with the theme “Content for Good”.
Beyond the fabulous fashion, the summit hosted a record-breaking turnout of over 30,000 attendees, featuring over 580 keynotes, panels, roundtable discussions, and workshops. Over 500 speakers took part—and yes, that includes Will Smith—while over 15,000 content creators were in attendance. The experience was to support creators as well as promote a healthy digital space for viewers. As such, strategic partnerships with platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, X, and Meta were announced to further promote responsible content.
AI held a strong focus this year—mainly on how AI can help support creators. Workshops and hands-on sessions taught creators how to make the most of emerging AI tools within their content and with behind-the-scenes business opportunities. Whereas an AI competition was also launched to further draw attention. Titled the AI Film Award in partnership with Google Gemini, the competition saw around 30,000 entries from 116 countries. Tunisian filmmaker Zoubeir Jlassi won the $1 million prize for his film Lily during the summit.

Staying true to the theme of “Content for Good”, two key initiatives were launched during the summit. One of which was the Educator Award, launched in collaboration with TikTok. The initiative was to recognise content creators who deliver knowledge through innovative approaches. The Educator Award generated around 320,000 videos that gathered approximately 1.8 billion views, with the winner being science content creator Matt Green, taking home a $100,000 cash prize.
The second initiative was the 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign in collaboration with creator MrBeast. Launched on November 7, 2025, the campaign encouraged content creators around the world to engage in acts of kindness within their communities. As a result, creators shared over 170,000 acts of kindness, generating over 100 million views. Among those who participated, 20 will be accompanying MrBeast to Ghana for humanitarian efforts, while also getting the chance to create content alongside MrBeast.
Between the competitions, discussions, and panels, the 1 Billion Followers Summit wasn’t just a meeting of who’s who but rather a focal point of the growing shift that Dubai provides in shaping future content creation. As the city attracts a variety of people and the government continues to actively support creators, it’s only a matter of time before the UAE as a whole stands tall in leading digital media. The record turnout this year only further proves that.
The next edition of the summit is set to take place from January 8 – 10, 2027. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the fifth edition will focus on global trends while continuing to support creators.
