Dubai’s wellness era is something we’ve kept a close (and critical) eye on. In a city that thrives on momentum, high-energy, and constant reinvention, the switch to can almost feel odd from a distance. But after further exploration into how the population is collectively experiencing burnout, it actually feels cathartic. In fact, it’s been a long time coming. And at the heart of Dubai’s wellness era is Tanya Mansotra and her healing oasis, Sohum Wellness Sanctuary.

Born from her own wellness journey, what Sohum provides is all in its name. An antithesis to Dubai’s urban lifestyle, it calls for the mind, body, and soul to align, to rest, and to connect with each other. Here, healing goes beyond matcha and a randomised Yoga class. It takes on an ongoing meaning, a journey rather than a singular class. And it all starts with Tanya, her vision to blend Ayurvedic practices with luxury spa treatments. As well as her journey, which informs how Sohum operates.

In this Q&A with Tanya, we explore the rise of wellness centres in Dubai and how Sohum Wellness Sanctuary fits within it.

You have always been involved in holistic practices. What made you decide to blend these practices with luxury spa treatments?

Holistic practices naturally honour the individual, and luxury enhances the experience without overshadowing it. At Sohum, every element, from therapy rooms to treatment flow, is designed so that ancient wisdom meets comfort, allowing people to fully relax and reconnect.

There has been a rising awareness in Dubai concerning wellness. Since you are at the core of it, have you noticed this shift? Are there certain practices or therapies that have suddenly gotten popular over the months?

Yes, there’s a growing curiosity in mindful practices. People are seeking experiences beyond the surface. Experiences like sound healing, breathwork, and energy-based therapies are gaining attention. It’s encouraging to see wellness being understood as a holistic lifestyle rather than just a spa visit.

One practice we have noticed going mainstream is sound healing. As a Level 2 sound healer, can you give us some insight into sound healing? What is it about this practice that draws people in?

Sound bypasses the thinking mind and speaks directly to the nervous system. It’s immediate, subtle, and deeply calming. People are drawn to it because it offers a tangible sense of release and balance in moments of overstimulation.

As the founder of a spiritual business, how do you stay grounded while running a business that is so deeply connected to emotional and spiritual work?

I stay grounded through my daily rituals—movement, breathwork, meditation, and connecting with nature. I also remind myself that my role is to hold space, not to carry everyone’s journey for them. Setting boundaries and honouring my own energy is crucial.

In a time when those in the city are collectively experiencing burnout, how can Sohum Wellness Sanctuary step in and provide relief?

By creating a sanctuary where people can pause, breathe, and restore themselves. Every therapy, every session, is designed to reset the nervous system and bring clarity and calm. It’s about providing space for presence in a world that rarely stops.

Finally, what are some small yet meaningful wellness practices we can incorporate into our daily lives?

Start with your breath. A few minutes of conscious breathing each morning can set the tone for the day. Move your body in ways that feel joyful, even if it’s gentle stretching. And take a moment to check in with yourself, ask how are you really feeling? These small acts accumulate and transform daily life.
