We’re officially in our short-hair era. From classic bobs and soft pixies to choppier cuts that look even better a little undone, there’s a version of the big chop for almost everyone.
The best part about going shorter? It doesn’t have to feel like a huge change. A French bob feels classic, a bixie has that ’90s thing going on, and a shaggy pixie looks better when it’s a little messy. If you’ve been thinking about cutting it all off, take this as your sign. Curved Bob
The curved bob is having a moment this fall. Cut to curve in towards the face, the shape gives the ends a soft, rounded finish rather than a blunt edge. You can wear it with flipped-up ends for a little more movement, or add volume through the lengths to get that rounded, almost C-shaped silhouette.
Wispy Bob
Júlia Mas keeps her bob short and a little messy, with soft texture and wispy ends that give it more movement. It feels less like a perfectly styled bob and more like the kind of cut you can just leave to do its thing. It’s an easy one if you want something short without it looking too sharp or overly styled.
Voluminous Curly Bob
Short hair and big volume are a very good combination. The voluminous curly bob sits around the shoulders, giving the curls plenty of room to move while keeping the shape short and defined. The extra volume makes the cut feel full and fun, rather than too neat, and it’s a great option if you want to go shorter without losing the drama and personality of your natural texture.
Layered Lob
Not ready for a full chop? Meet the lob. Hailey Bieber cut her hair into a long bob in late 2025 and hasn’t looked back since. This version keeps the length around the shoulders, with soft waves and flipped ends giving it some movement. It has that slightly messy, just-left-the-house feel without looking like you didn’t style it at all.
Whisper Pixie
The name may have been coined by model Taylor Hill and hairstylist Danielle Priano, but the cut itself takes inspiration from Hepburn. The whisper pixie is a delicate, elegant and slightly grown-out take on the classic pixie, finished with a soft sweep of bangs. Celebrities like Emma Stone have worn the style with short, sweet layers and wispy bangs that give the cut a softer finish.
Micro Bob
The edginess of your bob often comes down to its length. Micro bobs sit at or just above the jawline and can be shaped and styled to suit your face shape and everyday routine. However you wear it, the shorter cut gives the classic bob a sharper, more modern feel.
Bixie
’90s influences aren’t going anywhere, and neither is the bixie, a bob-pixie hybrid that feels straight out of an old rom-com. The cut takes its cues from ’90s movie stars like Meg Ryan, Winona Ryder and Chloë Sevigny, who all had their own versions of the style. Short but still easy to style, the bixie gives you a little of both worlds.
French Bob
The French bob has officially moved beyond trend territory and into contemporary classic status. It works across different hair types and textures, but the fringe is what really makes the cut. As Bailey-Chaidez puts it, French bobs are all about the bangs, with soft, wispy fringe that frames the eyes and cheekbones.
