The hair tinsel trend is a perfect summation of what the Y2K era’s fashion sensibility was all about. Fun, funky, and whimsical, with a certain je ne sais quoi that made it forever iconic.
Donned by the likes of Beyoncé all the way back in 2010, hair tinsel has been making a comeback, with people stringing the strands in their hair for a summer hairstyle with added pep. Maybe some of the credit even goes to the 2024 multi-Oscar-winning film, Anora, where the titular character was seen with the sparkling strands woven in her hair all through out the film.

Hair tinsels have had their runway moment, too.

Tinsel can be made out of fine polyster fibers or silk, depending on where you get it from, i.e., price and quality vary. But what stays the same is how simple and fun this trend is to try out. You can spruce up any look without risking damage from chemicals. You can either DIY it or get it done at a salon. It’s as simple as knotting the tinsel to a single strand of hair, which can be done using just your hands or, if that’s not working out for you, a hair weaving tool.
Plus, it’s safe to style your hair with the tinsel on. Feel free to use a straightener or curler, but try to keep the heat on the lower end to avoid damaging the tinsel.
