The Creative Director switcheroo seems to not be slowing down anytime soon. And unfortunately, among these changes, women are still few and far between. However, these changes have us intrigued about what the near future will look like for these fashion houses. So here’s us playing catch-up with the latest news on fashion’s creative directors.
Following up from our previous roundup, we finally have the answer to who will be succeeding Jonathan Anderson after his 11-year tenure in Loewe. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, founders of New York based brand Proenza Schouler, will be taking over, overseeing all Loewe collections. The designer duo, who have won five CFDA awards, including ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ and ‘Accessories of the Year’, have some pretty big shoes to fill, but nonetheless, fans of the Spanish luxury house are excited to see the duo’s creative vision.
Our next update follows Demna’s successor, whose news of appointment at Gucci was announced in March 2025. Following his lead is former Valentino Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Known for his couture and his romantic vision, we might have to brace ourselves for a reinvented Balenciaga.
At Jean Paul Gaultier, emerging Dutch designer Duran Lantink was appointed as permanent Creative Director. Since Jean Paul Gaultier’s retirement in 2020, the brand has housed multiple guest designers, creating one-off collections for the brand. Now, with Duran Lantink at the lead, the guest designer concept is officially over, making way for Lantink’s vision. His debut ready-to-wear collection for the brand will take place during Paris Fashion Week in September 2025, whereas his debut couture collection will be in January 2026.
Over at Jil Sander, Simone Bellotti was announced as Creative Director, leaving his two-year stint at Bally. Whereas Mugler has named Portuguese designer Miguel Castro Freitas as their new Creative Director. The designer boasts an impressive portfolio, with two decades of design experience in many prominent houses, including but not limited to Christian Dior, YSL, and Lanvin. Both Bellotti and Freitas will present their first collections under their respective labels at Paris Fashion Week in September 2025.
And after a slew of men taking over fashion’s most coveted positions, we finally have news of a woman joining the ranks. Just last week, Marni announced that Belgian designer Meryll Rogge has been appointed as Creative Director of the house. Following the success of her eponymous brand, Meryll Rogge, Rogge’s designs have received critical acclaim and have been seen on the likes of Rihanna and Dua Lipa. Although it has not been announced when she will present her first collection, fans of the brand are excited to see what the future has in store for Rogge and Marni.
