If your For You page is suddenly inundated with buttons, that’s not a coincidence; that’s just the first meme of 2026. Dubbed the “365 buttons”, what started as a silly trend is slowly becoming a way for the internet to become crafty once again.
To understand the “365 buttons” meme, we need to go back in time to 2025. The whole ordeal began at the tail end of December when a TikTok user named Tamara left a comment on a video about a 2026 rebrand. “I’m getting 365 buttons one for each day because I want to do more stuff and I’m scared of time so I want to be more conscious of it,” posted Tamara. Immediately, questions ensued. Other commenters replied, asking, “What is 365 buttons?” To which she responded, “Just to have to see how quick days pass and to remind myself that time passes and I just have fun and to do a lot of stuff.”
However, this just prompted more confusion, wondering about the use of the buttons. Were they meant to be stored in a jar? Stuck on a calendar like stickers? Sewn on a shirt? That was when Tamara put her foot down, declining to go into any more detail. Her comment reads, “Hey so it actually only has to make sense to me for me to do it and I don’t feel like explaining it to anyone else.”

Is it dismissive and rude? Depends on who you’re asking. Ask the internet, and they will tell you that it’s so brat. Yes, we’re talking Charli XCX-esque brat, with the right amount of edginess that makes things iconic rather than mean. Without thinking twice, the internet took Tamara’s comment and gave it a life of its own. First in the classic brat green and font, then as a parody, and now as an excuse to get crafty.
While we still have no idea what Tamara intends to do with her 365 buttons, those on the internet have begun to develop ways to make use of 365 buttons. Marking time, we’ve seen buttons turn into journal stickers; buttons being embroidered; and our favourite, buttons turned into makeup looks, replacing gems.
While the trend did start out unserious, as most trends do, plenty of internet discourse has begun to relate to Tamara’s comment. Her no-nonsense remark is an easy way to establish boundaries and, as such, has become a way for those to stand firm on their decisions instead of over-explaining. And for others, the buttons truly serve their purpose, making them conscious of time and providing that push to make every day count.
It is an example of how the internet can take something innocuous and make it larger than life. It won’t be too long before we see brands have their share in the fun. Maybe, like bows, we might start to see an increase in button motifs? Time will tell. As of now, Tamara is keeping herself incognito, avoiding the 365 buttons trend. More power to her; she doesn’t need to explain why to anyone else.
