Dubai’s art and cultural hub, Alserkal Avenue, recently put out an open call for all artists under their new initiative—Blank Space. Launched at a time when artists in the region are facing uncertainty, Blank Space will provide a free 4-week residency at one of Alserkal’s warehouses, offering temporary space, resources, and promotional support. There are 3 spaces available and each project will be in public-facing moments, i.e. exhibitions, performances, screenings or displays.

Through this initiative, artists will be able to put their ideas into work, experiment, and engage with the wider community. It is also a way for those in different disciplines to come together, nurture collaboration, and add to the UAE art scene.

The Instagram post announcing the initiative has quickly begun to make the rounds on social media, with people tagging local artists and businesses and artists openly calling out for like-minded creatives to join in on a collective. In a time when the world is seemingly distraught through division, both online and offline, this initiative has already begun setting the foundation for bringing people together

The call is open for all UAE-based creatives and creative collectives across design, textile craftsmanship, music, and visual arts. To apply, creatives must submit a 10-slide proposal outlining the collective and its members, the project’s concept, the community impact, and the 4-week activation plan, including its public programme. Applications are open till April 10, submitted via leasing@alserkal.online.
