We’ll admit it, shoes are probably the trickiest part of getting dressed when you’re wearing an abaya. Most of the time, they’re barely visible beneath the hem, yet somehow they still have the power to change the entire look.
The good news is that this season’s biggest shoe trends seem perfectly suited to floor-length dressing. Rather than competing with long hemlines, they complement them, adding just the right amount of interest every time they peek out from underneath. Whether you’re heading to work, meeting friends for brunch or getting dressed for dinner, these are the pieces you’ll be reaching for every time.
Elevated Flip Flops
If there’s one trend we’ve completely come around to this summer, it’s the elevated flip flop. Gone are the flimsy rubber pairs reserved for beach holidays. Instead, designers are embracing padded footbeds, chunky soles and supple leather finishes that feel lavish.

Mesh Ballet Flats
Mesh ballet flats are one of those trends that make perfect sense once you try them. They’re lightweight, breathable and surprisingly chic beneath a longer hemline. Because they’re so delicate, they never feel bulky, making them ideal for warmer days when you want something clean without reaching for a heel. If you’re hesitant about the mesh trend, this is probably one of the easiest ways to wear it.

Minimal Leather Mules
There’s something about a simple leather mule that always makes an outfit feel mindful. Whether paired with a tailored abaya or a flowing dress, they add just enough structure while remaining incredibly easy to wear. They’re definitely the pair we’d reach for when we can’t decide what shoes to wear because they somehow work with everything.

Soft Loafers
We’ve found myself reaching for soft loafers more and more lately. They have all the polish of a classic loafer but feel lighter and more relaxed, especially in supple leather with slimmer silhouettes that work so well with abayas and maxi skirts.

Retro Sneakers
As much as we love an oversized trainer, they don’t always work with floor-length silhouettes. They can make the entire outfit feel heavier than it needs to. Slimmer retro sneakers, however, are the perfect balance. Suede finishes, vintage colour palettes and low-profile soles peek out subtly beneath an abaya without overwhelming the silhouette.

Kitten Heels
Low kitten heel gives just enough lift to lengthen the silhouette while still being comfortable enough to wear for hours. They work especially well with evening abayas because they add style without distracting from the rest of the look.
